• In June 2024, a popular ecommerce grocery delivery service, found itself in hot water in Hyderabad. Local authorities conducted a surprise inspection and discovered numerous violations of food safety standards. The infractions included improper storage conditions, unlabelled products, and substandard hygiene practices. This incident has sparked a broader discussion about the necessity of rigorous compliance measures in the food industry.
  There was an absence of FOSTAC or Food Safety Training and Certification-trained personnel, and food handlers were found without proper protective gear such as headgears, gloves, and aprons. Additionally, the medical fitness certificates for the food handlers were not available. The inspection also found cosmetic products stored alongside food items at the Blinkit warehouse, which is a violation of safety standards.
• ​​​Popular for their Ghee Podi and Garlic Roast Dosa, a Bangalore based Cafe is one of the most iconic restaurants in South India. But recently the Hyderabad branch of the Cafe has been under the radar for violating food safety norms and using unlabelled and expired foods, which raised concerns over food and hygiene.Telangana Food Safety Department seized the kitchen for improper and unclear labelling and found 100kg of expired urad dal, 10 kg of expired Nandini curd and 8ltr of milk expired present in kitchen with 450kg of improperly labelled raw rice, 20kg of white lobia, 300kg of unlabelled jaggery. The medical fitness certificates were not submitted for food handlers and the dustbins were also not covered with lids.
• On the same day, another famous Indian Kitchen was also raided, authorities found synthetic food colours and a heavy cockroach infestation in their kitchen. Also, cockroaches were found on food articles inside the storeroom. The kitchen premises were observed to be extremely unhygienic, with water stagnation in the cleaning area, authorities also found semi-prepared and raw food was improperly stored inside the refrigerator, and the medical fitness certificate for food handlers was not found. The true copy of the FSSAI License was also not displayed in the premises.
